A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life limiting or life-threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns steps in. We help families cope at every stage of their child’s life and beyond, wherever and whenever they need it.
At Acorns we understand what families are going through. We’re here for them through all life’s ups and downs, sharing fun and laughter in the good times, and standing alongside them in the tough times. Our dedicated teams provide not just highly specialist clinical care for children and young people but a range of psychosocial services for the whole family, including bereavement support, advocacy and a number of dedicated support groups for mums, dads, grandparents, brothers and sisters.
This support is offered from Acorns three hospices, based in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester, and in the community. Our hospices are happy and colourful, home-like environments where children take part in a range of fun and therapeutic activities, from arts and crafts sessions to hydrotherapy. Children visit Acorns for symptom management, rehabilitative respite, emergency and end-of-life care.
Every year, Acorns cares for more than 780 children, and around 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.
We need £35,000 per day to provide our vital services and we rely on generous donations and fundraising by the community and local businesses for two-thirds of this amount.

At the Bromsgrove Standard we have always taken pride in being the district’s number one community newspaper.
And, as well as bringing you news, sport, information and entertainment, we also love to promote local events and help our readers stay fit and healthy.
Health and wellbeing is so important these days and running is a great way to build and maintain fitness. With this in mind, it is great to be one of the Wythall Fun Run’s official partners.
Hopefully we can help inspire more runners eclipse last year’s already impressive total of participants and make the race and fun day even bigger and better.
